Ann Curry

Ann Curry, an American journalist and photojournalist who has reported on natural and war-related disasters for more than 45 years. She focuses on the suffering of those in these areas. Her father was an U.S. Navy sailor. Curry's parents bonded in Japan which is the country where her father was stationed after World War II. Curry graduated in 1978 with the degree of Bachelor's in Journalism from the University of Oregon. She was exposed to a variety of cultures and experiences during her upbringing may have influenced her empathy method of communication regarding issues of international significance. Curry graduated with honors from Ashland High School. In the role of an intern at KTVL Channel 10 Medford, Oregan, she began her journey as a broadcaster. She became the first female journalist for the station when she was just 22. Then she was promoted to anchoring and reporting at KGW, an NBC-affiliated station located in Portland. After moving to Los Angeles, she became a reporter at KCBS TV within four years of making the move to the city. In the course of her work with this channel for the duration of six years that she won two Emmy Awards.
